The AINS Nutrition and Health Cluster aims to contribute to innovation in the Spanish food industry in the area of healthy and functional foods and to increase the industry’s competitiveness through strategies that yield the flows of knowledge and innovation.
To this end, it promotes activities related to food nutrition and health statements, the development of functional ingredients, additives and foodstuffs, food safety, industrial technology and processes, market analysis, legal regulations and specialized training.
In terms of overall employment and turnover, AINS comprises 20 companies and four knowledge centers, which together account for more than 2,000 employees, €800 million in turnover and a total R&D investment of €12 million. Since it was founded, it has carried out 17 projects related to feasibility, innovation, training and promotion of participation in R&D.
The cluster has been recognized the by Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, has been awarded the Bronze Medal for Excellence in the management of European clusters and is a member of the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia (CEICS).
Reus has a health and nutrition R&D center, which supports corporate scientific research and serves the food industry with the Technological Center of Nutrition and Health, together with the Center for Omic Sciences , a scientific institution in the world of omic technology that is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology in metabolomics, proteomics and transcriptomics as well as genomic tools.
